Health insurance, Texas style.
United Health Care has received a huge honor in the Texas health insurance industry: being named the top health insurance carrier of choice for the Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC), affiliated Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, and member businesses. United Health Care is the first national health insurance company to receive this endorsement from TAMACC.
United Health Care insurance programs were honored because they have been tailored to meet the unique health insurance needs of Hispanic businesses and their employees. In fact, United Health Care and TAMACC have joined together to offer a new plan for insurance, servicing Hispanic markets.
PlanBien is a new Texas health insurance plan being offered with unique adjustments for Spanish-speaking Hispanics and their families.
- Educational materials printed in Spanish
- Bilingual illustrations that depict how families discuss common health problems
- Trained and certified bilingual (English/Spanish) Customer Service Representatives and Spanish insurance agents available to answer health insurance questions and help plan participants find Spanish speaking Texas doctors
- Bilingual health care provider directory of bilingual Texas medical centers
- Access to United Health Care’s national network of over 56,000 physicians and 4,800 hospitals
The new PlanBien targets two major problems with the current Hispanic health insurance system. First, it helps to reduce the amount of the uninsured among the Hispanic population. Second, it helps Spanish-speaking customers better understand their health insurance plan and insurance policy benefits. There is a significant gap in understanding when it comes to insurance vocabulary for Spanish speakers. This Texas health insurance plan is perfect for businesses and organizations with Spanish-speaking employees who may speak English at work, but prefer to speak Spanish at home or in their personal lives.
United Health Care is extremely proud to receive this honor. In speaking of their health insurance program and the honor bestowed upon them, UnitedHealthCare’s Vice President of Latino Health Solutions has said:
At UnitedHealthCare, we are committed to supporting Hispanics and their communities with programs that improve their overall health and enhance their well-being and quality of life . . . We are honored that the Texas Association of Mexican-American Chambers of Commerce has recognized our commitment.

I started Hispanic Health Insurance in 1990, a company that specailizes in Marketing Health Insurance to Hispanics. It has been a long and winding road these years, in the past few months I have noticed a huge influx of companies wanting to “enter the market”. I think it is wonderful!

I think most people would be silly to not want to enter the Hispanic health insurance market. Everyone that is un-insured should have access to affordable health insurance coverage (especially in the United States of America). I don’t think insurance agents and/or insurance companies have been neglecting the Hispanic market, I just think that not alot of people speak fluent Spanish (or enough to properly explain health insurance coverage inside and out).
