The United States spends more on health care than any other country. Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? But what you probably don’t know is that the US is ranked 47th in life expectancy, and 43rd in child mortality. Still impressed? We are in the midst of a health care crisis, with millions of American adults and children living without health insurance. And among those who are insured, many are still struggling to pay for the rising costs of health care.
The Democratic National Convention is currently underway in Denver, Colorado. I’m sure most of us are paying close attention, regardless of our political affiliation, to fully understand the views of the Democratic party. We thought we would provide a general overview of the Democratic platform’s position on health care and health insurance, since it has become such a critical issue in our society.
The Democratic party has made one thing extremely clear: They are united around the idea that every American man, woman, and child should be guaranteed affordable health care. They maintain that good health is the foundation of a productive, successful society.
Affordable Health Insurance
Families and individuals should have a wide array of options when it comes to choosing a health insurance plan, including both private health insurance plans and public options. Coverage should be made affordable for everyone, with assistance provided through tax credits and other means. Employers should be rewarded for providing affordable coverage to their workers.
Health Insurance Discrimination
Health insurance plans should accept all applicants, regardless of their current health situation. Pre-existing conditions should never result in higher prices. Insurance should not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, or income. Our health care system should become culturally accepting and accessible.
Portable Insurance
No one should have to worry about losing health coverage when they change or lose their job.
Better Benefits
Affordable premiums and lower deductibles. Stop limiting the amount of coverage a person is entitled to. Provide coverage for mental health care, addiction treatment, and birth control – just to name a few.
Support for Older Americans and People with Disabilities
Both seniors and people with disabilities should have access to high quality, affordable long term care services. These services should be convenient and readily available.

Obama and Biden should be republicans, neither has a health care pl.
